With Phase 4, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding to new heights, and it all culminates with Doctor Strange 2, officially titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The sequel film will use storyline threads from Loki, WandaVision, and Spider-Man: No Way Home to create a tale that has the potential to be bigger than even Avengers: Endgame.
But don't feel pressed.
Doctor Strange 2, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and directed by the renowned Sam Raimi, is arguably the most anticipated MCU film of Phase 4.
Jade Bartlett and Loki writer Michael Waldron collaborated on the film's screenplay.
Based on what we've learned about the film, Doctor Strange 2 seems to be setting the groundwork for all future MCU efforts.

The New Director of Doctor Strange 2
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is directed by Sam Raimi, who directed Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy.
He takes over for Scott Derrickson, who directed Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in 2016. Derrickson was formally revealed as the sequel's director during the San Diego Comic-Con in the summer of 2019.
However, owing to creative disagreements, Derrickson and Marvel Studios parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Doctor Strange is mentioned in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 when J. Jonah Jameson asks for name options for Doctor Octopus.
Both Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus from Raimi's film appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over two decades later.
When Will Doctor Strange 2 Be Released?
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to debut in the United States on May 6, 2022. The sequel was supposed to be released on May 7, 2021.
The COVID-19 epidemic, like most movie schedules, delayed their preparations. Doctor Strange 2 was moved back many times, first to November 5, 2021, then to March 25, 2022, and finally to its present date, with Eternals assuming the November slot.
Confirmed Cast of Doctor Strange 2
The core ensemble returns for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, including Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Doctor Christine Palmer, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo.
Doctor Strange and Wong both featured in the Infinity Saga's last two Avengers films, as well as Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Wong also appearing in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Doctor Strange nearly made a cameo in WandaVision before being eliminated from the series finale, according to Rolling Stone.
While McAdams portrays Palmer in the Disney+ animated series What If...?, Palmer and Mordo have not appeared in any Marvel Studios movie since 2016. For the first time in years, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reunites the group.
When does Doctor Strange 2 take place?
Doctor Strange 2 will take place after the events of WandaVision. That puts it in the year 2023. The film is also technically taking place after Loki, even though the latter takes place in a different chronology from the main MCU reality.
And, given that Strange will appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange 2 will very certainly take place after the events of that film. There's also the possibility of some crossover between the two films. Now that the universe and time travel is a fact in the MCU, pretty much everything is conceivable.
What Is the Story of Doctor Strange 2?
Doctor Strange in the Universe of Madness takes place after Spider-Man: No Way Home, which involves key events that explore the MCU's multiverse. According to Bloomberg, Kevin Feige said that the film would be related to Loki.
Following the appearances of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in No Way Home, the MCU is now at a place where characters from other worlds may easily arrive.
Magneto and Mister Fantastic himself, Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, are said to appear in the Multiverse of Madness.
There is an unauthorized story summary floating around the internet, but it raises more questions than it answers. This is what it says:
"Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr. Stephen Strange continues his investigation on the Time Stone. However, an old friend-turned-enemy foils his ambitions, causing Strange to unleash horrible evil."
So, if true, Mordo (friend-turned-enemy) is going to pose some significant difficulties for Strange. To be honest, that much was previously predicted given how Doctor Strange ended with Mordo turning on his fellow sorcerers.
Alternatively, the "friend-turned-enemy" may be Wanda, even though she and Strange have scarcely had any on-screen contact in the movies, so she's not an "old friend."
The "horrible evil" section is a little more perplexing.
We still don't know who the big enemy for Doctor Strange 2 will be.
It's someone with connections to the multiverse.
Could it be Mephisto(he's gotta pop up somtime, right?)
Nightmare? Perhaps even the Scarlet Witch herself?
